GMK is very pleased to announce that on September 3, 2016 Oksana Vovk, associate attorney in our Orange County office, was crowned Ms. America 2017. The Ms. America Pageant started in 1997 for women 26 years of age or older.
Titleholders are required to have a platform or a cause that they believe in and would like to promote along with other appearances they make throughout their reign. They are to use their crown for a purpose in order to make a difference in their communities and around the world. This year there were 43 contestants representing numerous states and communities. All contestants were awarded the Presidential Volunteer Service Gold Award by the President of the United States for their community service and volunteering.
The Ms. America pageant has a mission statement to:
TO EMPOWER WOMEN ACROSS THE NATION
* Celebrate their accomplishments.
* Encourage involvement in community service.
* Use the “crown for a purpose” to make a difference.
* To promote, honor & advance the status of women.
Ms. Vovk has been an associate attorney with Goldman, Magdalin & Krikes, LLP since December 2015. She initially completed her law degree in Chernivtsi, Ukraine in 1995. Oksana later obtained her Juris Doctor degree after graduating from Western State University, College of Law in Fullerton, California in 2000. She has been working in the legal field since 1997 in civil litigation and workers’ compensation. She has been a practicing workers’ compensation defense attorney since 2004, representing self-insured employers, third-party administrators and carriers.
Ms. Vovk plans to use her “crown for a purpose” by encouraging involvement and enlightenment for fighting autism and promoting organic living.
